Impressed with attitude – Middendorp

“With a little more sharpness in front of the goal, we would have been telling a different story,” Ernst Middendorp reflected after the 1-all draw against Black Leopards on Saturday. “However, compared to last week’s game against Baroka, the attitude was great – the fighting spirit was there.”

The coach watched in disbelief as Kaizer Chiefs came agonisingly close to collecting maximum points in the Absa Premiership fixture played at a sold-out Thohoyandou Stadium.

“We dominated in terms of goalscoring opportunities,” continued Middendorp. “We should have had the lead going into the half-time break, although I can live with the outcome because we can take a lot of positives out of this match going forward. Several players raised their hands in terms of selection.”

Chiefs drew first blood courtesy of Dax Andrianarimanana. “He’s really coming through with some good performances,” the German coach complimented the Malagasy midfielder. “I actually thought that he deserved to get the Man of the Match award.

“Reeve Frosler, meanwhile, made his debut today and did well considering that he hasn’t played for over a year.”

Amakhosi will face Port Elizabeth-based Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup semi-final on Saturday, 20 April.

“We came to get a win, but Leopards were also hungry to get the points,” concluded Middendorp.

“This Leopards match has no link with the next one,” concluded Middendorp. “The plan for the Chippa game will only kick in after we have reviewed the Leopards clash. That’s when we will refocus our attention to fight for a place in the Nedbank Cup final.”
