Kaizer Chiefs news: Ramahlwe Mphahlele injury status yet to be determined ahead of Soweto Derby cup semi-final

Kaizer Chiefs face an anxious wait to learn the extent of right-back Ramahlwe Mphahlele’s injury he picked up while on Bafana Bafana duty.Chiefs will host Orlando Pirates in a sold-out Telkom Knockout semi-final at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday (kick-off at 15h00).

Mphahlele though is at risk of missing out after his return to the Bafana line-up against Paraguay in the Nelson Mandela Challenge on Tuesday lasted just 56 minutes due to what looked to be a groin injury.

On his way to the dugout, after being replaced by Cape Town City fullback Thamsanqa Mkhize, the 28-year-old, who scored the lone goal that led Amakhosi past SuperSport United in the TKO quarter-final earlier this month, looked in some discomfort as he was seen clutching the affected area.

Before the international break, Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas was wary of the injury risk his players would face on international duty, ahead of the all-important Soweto Derby cup tie. Meanwhile in the Bucs camp…

Asavela Mbekile targets one more trophy to complete his clean sweep

Mbekile still has an appetite for more trophies at his new club but is eyeing one in particular to complete his collection. He joined Pirates at the start of the season but missed out on quite a chunk of the campaign before eventually making his debut earlier this month.

The 32-year-old arrived having already won two Absa Premiership titles, one Telkom Knockout, a Nedbank Cup as well as the CAF Champions League and Super Cup.
