City of Tshwane commits more resources to the war against cable theft

In his State of the Capital Address on 12 April this year, the Executive Mayor, Cllr Solly Msimanga, made a commitment to intensify the fight against cable theft in Tshwane.

True to his word, he unveiled 103 vehicles on 24 July to be used by the Cable Theft Unit of the Tshwane Metro Police Department. The new vehicles will enable swift reaction and mobility in the fight against cable theft. More than R80 million has also been allocated to the unit to equip them with the necessary resources.

In the last year alone, R120 million has been lost due to cable theft, said Msimanga. He encouraged residents to play their part in getting rid of cable theft completely by reporting any suspicious behaviour or digging to 012 358 7095/6 or 080 874 9263. Residents can also contact the ward councillor and Community Police Forum (CPF) in their area.
